Opened in 2003, this garden was built by Surrey Sands in partnership with Reigate and Banstead Council and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust. Located within the lovely Redstone Cemetery and carefully positioned alongside the dedicated children’s area, it is the perfect location for reflection. Set on a circular plot, it is fronted by two raised flower beds which provide a splash of seasonal colour. A low wall completes the circle and provides a dedicated area to display bronze memorial plaques above the flower vases below. Central to the wall is placed a poignantly inscribed tablet which reads:
“To the world a baby – to us the world. Briefly in our lives, forever in our hearts.”
The garden’s central feature is a working 3 tier granite fountain depicting a tiny baby held within a hand. Two stone seats facing the fountain offer a welcomed place to sit and reflect accompanied by the soothing sound of trickling water. For anyone without a private memorial site this is the most perfect location to acknowledge the life of your precious child.
Memorial plaques can be ordered by any of our members through the Redstone Office. If required, ashes can be scattered in an area adjacent to the garden.
The grassed area adjacent to the garden is now available for the planting of the Sands Charity rose “Eloise” along with a memorial plaque. To buy your rose contact the grower http://www.jonestherose.co.uk/index.php. Delivery charges vary depending on bare root or potted.
The plaque can be ordered via the cemetery office on 01737 761592. The cost is £140 plus £10 for a motif (September 2015).
